Hey UW and WLU students - this is how you occupy, a note from Belgrade (Serbia)

Students of the Philological Faculty of Belgrade occupied their faculty building on Monday, 17th October with demands for the lowering of tuition fees. Soon afterwards their colleagues joined their struggle and on the 20th October the building of the Philosophical Faculty was occupied as well.

Conspiracy to Riot in the Age of Austerity

Some thoughts at the outset of the preliminary inquiry

- Narrative resistance

Today is the first day of what is scheduled to be an 11 week preliminary inquiry for what the Ontario Crown Attorney’s office calls, the “G20 Main Conspiracy Group Prosecution.” This prosecution will see myself, along with 16 other community organisers spend almost three months in court every single week day, watching and listening as the Crown Attorneys from the Provincial “Gangs and Guns Initiative” present evidence collected by a series of undercover cops who infiltrated community organisations across the country over a period of nearly two years prior to last year’s G20 (an event which saw the city converted into “Fortress Toronto,” as the heads of state from the world’s twenty richest countries, along with more than 10 000 cops, occupied the city’s downtown).

Beating Bad Habits: How community organizers are working together for more secure online communications

KITCHENER, ON—Over the past two years infiltration and disruption of activist and media organizations as well as anarchist communities by undercover cops have been on the rise across Canada. This has included high profile cases of police infiltrating groups organizing resistance to the 2010 Winter Olympics on Coast Salish Territories and the G20 summit in Toronto.

Throughout these experiences one thing is now clear: beyond our often naive approach to security culture many in the social and ecological justice movements are not practicing good computer security habits.

Imprint Backs UW's Criminalization of Dissent - Practices quite poor "Free Speech"

I have now sent three letters discussing the Christie Blatchford situation to UW's student funded and operated paper the Imprint. These letters were in response to the editorials, letters and community editorials that the Imprint has run which attack me, the ARA, and our actions which confronted the dominant eurocentric culture and one of their mouthpieces. That the Imprint wont print these views is a telling tale of its own - it is a right biased and uncritical rag.

What I find interesting with christie blatchford and the university of Waterloo is that the school has made no efforts to address the concerns raised around the fitness of blatchford to speak on the campus (http://toronto.mediacoop.ca/story/spectre-ara/5123). Instead they intend to militarize the next event and send undercover agents into teach-ins.
